Ruturaj Gaikwad has reached another important milestone. Gaikwad is now the second fastest Indian batter to score 5,000 runs in T20 cricket. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 is still going on, and he scored the goal.

Wednesday, November 26, marked the start of the 18th SMAT

There are 38 teams from the United States competing for the title in the competition. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, made history on the first day of play. With 5000 runs in just 20 games, he is now the second-fastest Indian to do so.

Gaikwad could only get 6 runs off of 8 balls during the game. But those runs put him in the club of people who have scored 5,000 runs.

Also, Gaikwad did this even though he had a bad day with the bat. He is currently leading Maharashtra in the SMAT match against Jammu & Kashmir. The batter who hit with his right hand went back to the bench with a score of 6(8) and one home run.

Gaikwad beats Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill

It was Gaikwad who beat Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. He is now only behind KL Rahul. The CSK leader scored 5000 T20 runs in just 144 games, which is one more than KL’s time of 143. Here is a list of all the Indians who have scored 5000 T20 runs the fastest.

  • 143 – KL Rahul
  • 144 – Ruturaj Gaikwad*
  • 154 – Shubman Gill
  • 167 – Virat Kohli
  • 173 – Suresh Raina

When it comes to Gaikwad’s stats, the CSK captain has played 144 games and scored 5000 runs, with an average of 39.33 and a strike rate of 140.69. He has got six centuries and 35 fifties.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is hitting the ball very hard right now

Aside from this odd mistake, Ruturaj Gaikwad is in great shape. He scored 210 runs in three games, which is an average of 105.00. The 28-year-old hit a hundred and a fifty, which won him a spot on India’s team for the ODI series against South Africa that starts on November 30.

Former Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw will lead Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy league stage, which starts on November 26. This will be a big boost for his career, which looked like it was going nowhere last year. Shaw has taken over as captain from Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been called up to India’s ODI team for the upcoming home series against South Africa.

After being kicked off Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team last year, Shaw moved to Maharashtra at the beginning of the season. He has been in great form in the Ranji Trophy, scoring 470 runs in five matches (seven innings), including a stunning double-century (222 off 156 balls against Chandigarh at Chandigarh) and three half-centuries. With an average of 67.14, Shaw is the team’s top run-getter after the first leg.

With his skill and knowledge, Prithvi has done a great job for us. He also got us a hundred and ten runs. Our group is pleased with him. He is leading from the front and getting the team to follow him. He should be the captain of Maharashtra. “He has shown that he wants to play for India again, so we are happy with him,” Kamlesh Pisal, head of the Maharashtra Cricket Association, told TOI from Pune.

The Maharashtra skipper couldn’t have come at a better time for Shaw, whose career took a big hit last year when he wasn’t sold at the IPL sale in Abu Dhabi on December 15. As a Mumbai player last season, the 26-year-old got 197 runs in nine games at a strike rate of 156.34 in SMAT.

Pune, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Goa are all in Group B, along with Maharashtra. All of the team’s league games will be held in Kolkata. On November 26, Maharashtra will start their fight against Jammu and Kashmir.

Chennai Super Kings came last in the IPL 2025 because Gaikwad skipped most of the season. This is a good sign for them. So far, though, the right-handed hitter has been in great shape, which is good news for the Men in Yellow.
