Assailants who have not yet been identified fired several shots outside the Mumbai home of award-winning Bollywood director Rohit Shetty early Sunday, February 1, 2026, leading to heavy police presence in the area in response to what they deemed to be an emergency situation.
Incident Information / Immediate Response
Preliminary reports say shots were fired near Shetty’s Juhu house sometime between 12:30 and 1:00 a.m. Local authorities were notified and quickly dispatched police and forensic investigators to the location, where they established a perimeter and began investigating the incident.
Sources say roughly four to five shots were fired from an undetermined location; however, the exact quantity and identity of the shooter(s) has not yet been confirmed because they fled prior to the police’s arrival.
No Casualties reported
No one was hurt in the incident — both Rohit Shetty and his family are unharmed by the gunfire, and no others were injured at the location due to the shooting. The police have stated that there are no known threats to anyone’s safety at this time, but they will thoroughly investigate the matter considering the nature of the crime.
Police Investigation Underway
An investigation by Zonal police, Crime Branch & Forenson team has begun into the incident after Mumbai Police have filed an FIR against the crime under the Arms Act. CCTV footage from over 100 cameras in the vicinity is being analysed to find out who carried out the attack and trace their escape route.
Commissioner Deven Bharti confirmed that officers are looking at every possibility, but they do not have established a definitive motive to blame anyone.

Increased Security around Shetty’s Residence
Following the firing, Mumbai authorities have installed Police vehicles, police barricades, and officers around Shetty’s residence in large quantity for security purposes, as the investigation continues.
Additionally, forensic units and ballistic examiners were on-site gathering evidence such as collecting spent cartridges and assessing damages to property.
Motive Still Unclear
Authorities are stating that they do not know what caused this incident yet. There are many theories that police will be investigating, including if this was done to intimidate the filmmaker or if there are any outside influences that led to this event, as there have been no threats made against the filmmaker in the past weeks.
