The Indian traditional medicine systems have come a long way in the digital watchtower. The Ministry of Ayush announced that the Ayush Suraksha Portal has already passed 10,000 complaints since its launch.

The statistics given by Minister of State (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav in a written response to the Lok Sabha, paint a very clear picture of a nation that is becoming more and more aware of what it is eating. Introduced in May 2025 after a landmark Supreme Court directive, the portal was not just set to be a reporting tool but also to serve as a protection to the millions who practice Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy.

An awakening in Consumer Awareness

The mere fact that the number of reports has come to 10,269 complaints about misleading ads and 216 suspected adverse drug reactions (ADRs) cases, implies a monumental change in the mindset of people. Traditional medicine in India had been a victim of the halo effect over decades. An insidious, but threatening, opinion existed that since a product was natural, it would therefore be safe.

The 2026 data however indicates that the myth that the natural is always safe is crumbling. There is no more quietness on the side of consumers when a natural supplement has any claim to an unbelievable cure of chronic conditions or when any side effect of a natural remedy turns out to be unforeseen. Among all the complaints, an incredible majority is directed at Misleading Advertisements (MLAs) the unfounded, usually baseless claims that social media and late-night TV make that preys on the desperation of patients.

The Anatomy of the Portal

  • The Ayush Suraksha Portal is not a simple web site, but the upper part of a more complex three-layer pharmacovigilance network. There is some chain of command behind each complaint logged:
  • The Public: Directly the citizen is able to post screenshots of suspicious advertisements or information about physical reactions.
  • The IPvCs (Intermediary Centres): These are located in national institutes such as the National institute of Ayurveda in Jaipur, and the national institute has handled more than 5,000 cases.
  • The NPvCC (National Coordination Centre): This is based at the All India institute of Ayurveda in New Delhi, which serves as the concluding adjudicator that analyses data on trends and risks.

This arrangement means that when one of the villagers in Maharashtra complains, his complaint is not lost in a database, but directed to the people with the power to actually remove a dangerous product off the shelf.

Local Leaders in Regulation

The report issued by the government indicated a very interesting geographical distribution of vigilance. Maharashtra became the leader in the regulatory action having registered 1,112 complaints and, most importantly, acting on all of them.

Other states that are highly active include:

  • Madhya Pradesh: 975 complaints.
  • Tamil Nadu: 825 complaints.
  • Delhi: 369 complaints.

Nevertheless, there was also a gap in the data of the speed of justice. Other regions are lagging behind Maharashtra and Kerala which have a disposal rate of 100 percent on complaints. The Ministry indicated that there are still other states under the stage of investigating repeat offenders especially those who still post non-legal adverts even after prior warnings. The reason why Misleading Ads have become the Bane of the Modern Day.

The main fight of the ministry of Ayush in 2026 is not the ancient books; it is the contemporary marketing. As with the emergence of the concept of influencer wellness, Ayush has experienced a spike in the number of products that promise to cure everything, including gray hair, and terminal diseases.

The Human Factor: Bearing and Securing Patient Safety

In addition to the statistics, there is a humanized reality of this portal. All of the 216 Adverse Drug Reactions reports are individuals who were in search of healing and were hurt. Through recording of such cases, the government is developing a “Safety Database” with the help of which the practitioners can make knowledge on how the traditional herbs can react with the modern pharmaceuticals.

The Ministry focused on the fact that Safety is not a choice but a right. The Ayush Suraksha Portal insures that the reputation of the citizens towards conventional mechanisms is supported by the evidence-based safety surveillance.
