A Vande Bharat Sleeper train will run between Bengaluru and Mumbai. The Railway Ministry has given the service its blessing. When it starts running in January, the Vande Bharat Sleeper will run between Kolkata and Guwahati. This will be its second route.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, a minister in the Union government, told PC Mohan, who is the Lok Sabha MP for Bangalore Central, about the approval in a letter.
“You’ll be happy to hear that the new Vande Bharat Sleeper train between KSR Bengaluru and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (T) has been given the go-ahead,” the minister said.
Mohan shared the message, which was written on April 5, on the social media site X. The MP thanked the Union government, specifically Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vaishnaw, for allowing the Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper train, saying that it would make travel easier for people and connect the two cities better.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has approved a new Vande Bharat sleeper train service between Bengaluru and Mumbai. This comes almost three months after the successful start of the first Vande Bharat sleeper train between Kamakhya and Howrah. The new addition fits in with the government’s plan to speed up production and get 12 new sleeper rakes into service by December 2026. This will improve long-distance train connections across the country.
PC Mohan is a BJP MP from Bangalore Central. On April 5, 2026, the government minister sent him a letter in which he approved a train service between KSR Bengaluru railway station and Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
Vande Bharat Trains
Since they began running between New Delhi and Varanasi in February 2019, the Vande Bharat trains have carried over 9.1 crore passengers on 1,000,000 rides. Only in FY25-25 did about 3.98 crore people use the service, up from 2.97 crore in FY 2024-25. This is a huge increase year-over-year of almost 34%.
It took 119 trips over three months for the Kamakhya-Howrah Vande Bharat train service to carry 1.21 lakh people, which means that more than 100% of the seats were filled. This show showed that there is a lot of desire for and trust in premium nighttime train services.
Multiple sources say that two sleeping Vande Bharat rakes will likely be sent on the route. One rake will come from Mumbai and the other from Bengaluru. This will allow for a daily nighttime service running between the two big metros.
The service between Mumbai and Bengaluru will be the country’s second Vande Bharat Sleeper corridor. In January of this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper corridor, which ran from Howrah to Guwahati (Kamakhya) and connected West Bengal and Assam.
The Udyan Express is the only train that runs every day between Bengaluru and Mumbai. It goes through Guntakal and Kalaburagi, covers 1,136 km, and mostly serves the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The train ride takes 23 hours and 35 minutes. The trip back takes 21 hours and 50 minutes.
There is also a special train between LTT and SMVB once a week. The Trivandrum express runs every day, the LTT-Coimbatore express runs every day, and the Dadar Pondicherry express and the Dadar-Tirunelveli express run every three weeks. This is the fastest route; it takes 18 hours and 44 minutes.
Along with 16 modern cars that can hold a total of 823 people, the train is designed to go long distances. The train, which can go as fast as 180 km/h, is meant to cut down travel time while also making the experience more comfortable and quieter.
Sleeping beds designed to be more comfortable for your body are meant to help you sleep better on long trips. Automatic doors with vestibules between cars make getting around inside the train safe and easy. An improved suspension system is meant to improve the ride by reducing noise and jolting.

The series started with the chair cars, which came out in February 2019. The Vande Metro, which is now officially called Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, came out in September 2024, and the Sleeper version came out in January 2026.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper gives overnight visitors a comfortable ride in the style of the Rajdhani while incorporating the design and technology of the Vande Bharat. This could change the way people experience long-distance train travel.
Indian Railways also said that there has been a “remarkable surge in passenger patronage on the Vande Bharat Express network.”
About 3.98 crore people rode Vande Bharat trains in 2025–26, up from 2.97 crore people in FY 2024–25. This is a strong year-over-year growth of nearly 34%.
