There are no tickets available for SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi talk at Mexico Comic Con, prompting an online discussion about the global buzz.
Videos of SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi panel at CCXP Mexico went viral and showed empty seats. This caused fans to argue online, as some supported and others disagreed with the attendance.
People are talking a lot about SS Rajamouli’s long-awaited movie Varanasi after pictures from its panel at CCXP Mexico showed many empty seats, which drew mixed responses on social media. Others said the clips didn’t show the whole picture, while others said the gathering was disappointing for a director like Rajamouli.
Varanasi starts advertising around the world
The world marketing for the movie starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra just started at CCXP Mexico, which is one of the biggest pop culture events in Latin America. Reports say that producer SS Karthikeya took the stage, and guests saw never-before-seen video and behind-the-scenes material from the movie.
The panel was seen as an early attempt to get people around the world excited about the big project, especially since Rajamouli’s RRR was such a big hit everywhere else.
Seats that are empty go viral online
But soon after the event, pictures and short videos went viral online that showed a lot of empty places in the front rows during the talk. Some clips also seemed to show people moving in the crowd while Rajamouli spoke to them through a recorded video message.
That made people react online. Some fans called the images “embarrassing” and wondered if the movie had gotten enough attention in other countries. Someone wrote, “This is really embarrassing; SSR represented India on a global level, and the people at Mexico Comic Con aren’t giving Varanasi the attention it deserves.” Everything is clear from the empty seats.
“#Varanasi and #Ramayana seem heavily geared toward Western markets, while the real powerhouse—the Indian audience is being taken for granted,” wrote someone else. New pictures, on the other hand, show people leaving during Varanasi BTS at Mexico Comic Con. “Signals aren’t very good.”

Some people defend the screening
Not everyone agreed with what was said. A number of users pointed out that event goers often move from one panel to another, especially when there are a lot of big-name talks going on at the same time. Others shared different pictures from the venue that showed people standing behind the seating area and said the pictures were edited.
Some people also said that the number of people who show up to promotional talks without clips or celebrity appearances changes a lot.
Rajamouli talks about Baahubali and the history of the Mayans
Rajamouli is said to have talked about how the Mayan civilization influenced parts of Baahubali and how RRR has affected people around the world during his speech. People took what he said as an attempt to link Indian stories with viewers and cultures around the world.
TOI reported that he said, “The city center and the throne in my last movie, #Baahubali, were based on the famous Chichen Itza pyramid.” But I have to say that I don’t know much about Mexican history, tradition, or society. But now, I hope this will help me learn more about all of you great people.

Is it too soon to judge Varanasi?
At this point, it sounds like the talk is less about empty chairs and more about what people expect. Rajamouli is not like other filmmakers, and his next project is being closely watched at all times. A small number of people on the group may make the news, but it doesn’t tell us much about how people will react when the preview, video, or picture comes out. Since Varanasi hasn’t come out yet, the real decision will be in theaters, not on convention seating plans.
