At least seven people were killed and many more were hurt when a strong blast went through a busy market in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday. It was one of the deadliest attacks in the area in recent months. The explosion happened in the busy Naurang Bazaar area of the Lakki Marwat district. It sent shockwaves through the town and sent shoppers and sellers running in a panic.
Emergency workers in the area say that the blast was caused by a car full of explosives that went off in the middle of the busy market. The blast was so strong that it broke windows in several shops nearby and destroyed cars that were parked close to the scene. As scared people ran to get away, thick smoke quickly filled the area.
Police stated that the people who died were two police officers and several bystanders who were in the market at the time of the blast. Rescue teams and ambulances got to the scene right away and took the hurt people to hospitals nearby.
Chaos and damage after the blast
Witnesses told of terrifying scenes that happened right after the blast. People were seen running in all directions while hurt people yelled for help amid broken cars and debris. Videos from the scene showed smoke rising from the market area and metal that was bent and broken.
According to Rescue 1122, almost 30 people were hurt in the attack, and many of them were badly hurt. Medical staff at nearby hospitals said that several victims were in serious condition, which made people worry that the death toll could go up even more.
Officials at the hospital said that the emergency rooms were crowded with victims right after the blast. Late into the day, doctors and relief workers kept treating people while families looked for lost family members.
The market, which was normally full of people shopping and selling things, turned into a terrible scene very quickly. The area was quickly blocked off by police, who then began searching it to find proof from the blast site.

Concerns about safety grow in Pakistan
The latest attack has once again made people very worried about the worsening security situation in the northwest of Pakistan, which has been hit by a lot of terrorist violence in the past few years. Extremist groups and rebels have often gone after Lakki Marwat and the nearby areas.
The blast happened just a few days after another deadly attack in the nearby Bannu district, where terrorists are said to have targeted a police station. Several police officers were killed in that attack, which made things worse in the area.
Pakistan has said many times that recent strikes were carried out by terrorists working from across the border in Afghanistan. Terrorist groups based in Afghanistan are being blamed by Islamabad for attacks in Pakistan. These claims have made relations between the two neighbouring countries even worse.
The Taliban-led Afghan government, on the other hand, has denied giving terrorists a place to stay and has denied Pakistan’s claims in the past. More and more bloodshed has made people worry that the border areas will become unstable again.

The authorities start an investigation
After the market blast, the whole area was blocked off by security, and forensic experts started gathering evidence to figure out exactly what kind of attack it was. Investigators are trying to figure out if the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber or a car that was set off from afar.
Police believe the bombs were put inside a car that was parked in the busy market and then set off during busy shopping hours to kill as many people as possible.
The police have also increased checks in nearby neighbourhoods and put sensitive areas on high watch. After intelligence agencies warned of possible new strikes, checkpoints were made stronger in a number of places.
Officials from the government criticised the bombing and said they would take strict action against those who did it. Senior cops said that investigations were going on to find the attackers and any groups that may have been involved.
