A follow up to 3 Idiots by Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani is on the way. Their Dadasaheb Phalke movie, on the other hand, has been put on hold for now.

There was a time when Aamir Khan’s name was linked to Indian films that broke box office records. Before SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali movies changed what it meant to be a box office hit and set a standard for big-budget movies, Aamir Khan’s movies ruled Indian theatres in a way that had never been seen before.

Even though he didn’t have any big action scenes or bloodbaths, his movies broke box office records, and unlike many movies today, none of them were criticised for being racist or pro-establishment. Really, most of them were just good, easy works that made you think.

3 Idiots’ worldwide box office haul

Even though there are many stars in Bollywood, such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan’s Ghajini (2008) was the first movie to officially join the Rs 100 crore club. His 2009 movie 3 Idiots, a humorous coming-of-age comedy-drama directed by Rajkumar Hirani, was the biggest hit at India’s box office.

Bollywood Hungama reports the movie grossed a total of Rs 400.61 crore worldwide

The movie about three students at an engineering college became a national hit, earning a total of 202.95 crore in India net collections, even though it was said to have cost only 55 crore to make.

That was 16 years ago, and now Aamir Khan has announced that 3 Idiots will be back with a remake. “He (Hirani) is working on 3 Idiots 2 right now.” I heard the story, and it was good. “The story is great, but the script needs more work,” the star told Amar Ujala.

He also said, “It’s funny and has an interesting plot.” After 10 years, the same “three idiots” are back in the story. This is one of the projects I’m going to work on soon. I enjoy the story a lot, and I think Abhijat (Abhijat Joshi) and Raju (Rajkumar Hirani) wrote it very well. I’m also waiting for that to happen so I can turn Phunsukh Wangdu again.

The National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment went to 3 Idiots, which also had R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Boman Irani, and Mona Singh in it.

The biography of Dadasaheb Phalke has been put on hold for now

During the talk, Aamir did reveal that the movie about Dadasaheb Phalke has been put on hold for now. This was meant to be his return with Hirani.

Raju worked on Phalke’s story for a long time because it is very moving. He wrote three drafts of the script, but he’s still not happy with it. That’s why he put the idea on hold for now. “He might work on it again later,” the star said.

What did Dadasaheb Phalke do?

Dadasaheb Phalke’s Raja Harishchandra (1913), which is often called the first full-length Indian feature film, is often called “the Father of Indian cinema.” During his almost 20-year stint as a director, he is said to have made up to 27 short films and more than 90 feature pictures. In an interesting move, the Indian government created the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in his name. This is the country’s top film award at the moment.

In a previous statement, Aamir Khan’s team said that the star would start working on an unnamed project about Phalke’s life after Sitaare Zameen Par (2025). “He will start getting ready for his part as soon as Sitaare Zameen Par comes out.” The statement said, “VFX studios from Los Angeles have already made AI designs for the time and place of the film.”

“This script has been in the works for four years by Rajkumar Hirani, Abhijat Joshi, and two other writers named Hindukush Bharadwaj and Avishkar Bharadwaj.” Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar, Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandson, has helped with the project and given important stories from Dadasaheb Phalke’s life, the statement said.
