As soon as planning for the baby starts, multiple preparations need to be done to welcome the little one. A beautiful nursery is what every parent dreams about, however with a lot of medical and physical changing’s happening inside you, it may turn out to be an exhausting task, spoiling all your fun and excitement.
We have tried to list down some important aspects which you need to keep in mind while designing your baby’s nursery.
Colour theme
- If designing the nursery in advance, try to choose neutral colours suitable for both a baby girl’s or a baby boy’s room
- Experiment with mixing of colours use reds, oranges, greens in combination, babies get attracted to bright colours.
Furniture
Before going for shopping for your nursery furniture, look around in the house; there may be a cabinet or a small drawer that can be installed in the nursery
Buy only the essential furniture for the baby’s room like
- Crib: Select a baby cot that has a protective structure on all four sides. If the side supports are removable, then the cot can later be used as a bed for your kid
- Cupboard or almirah: Choose an almirah with good storage capacity and without sharp ends and corners. Choose cupboards with good height so that it’s out of your Childs reach and has multiple cabinets to store your babies’ toys and other items.
- Comfy chair: Install a comfortable couch or a rocking chair for yourself to feed and rock the baby to sleep
- Baby chair or feeding chair: You may also add a feeding chair in the room, but it is not necessary, as it can be bought when the baby learns to sit properly and enjoys solid foods.
Lighting
- Utilise natural lightning to its best. Place windows such that sunlight falls inside your baby room.
- Keep the lightning simple, use colourful lights as it may disrupt your child’s sleep.
- Add a dimmer switch with the lights so it’s not totally dark while your baby sleeps as the baby may get scared when he/she wakes up.
Space management
- Clutter the room with unnecessary decorative of furniture pieces, the room needs to be spacious for your kid to play around.
- A spacious room also reduces the chances of injuries for your baby
- Place the furniture wisely such that the room appears bigger than it actually is.
- Use simple and soft flooring, a wall to wall carpet is best

Do not restrict your Child
You can restrict your child to a small space. But the real challenge is to let your child explore his world safely. You must never stop your child from exploring. It develops various important aspects of your child, including physical, mental and emotional.
Importance of Exploring
When your child explores, he learns about new objects, colours, shapes and their utilities. Most importantly, they learn how everything around the works. Thus, you must always encourage your child to explore, but in a safe environment.
Let him observe himself in a Mirror
A mirror is a wonderful thing to help your child explore his own body parts. He can easily watch his movements in the mirror and learn new behaviours. Thus, you need to place a mirror at the ground level within easy access of your child. But make sure that mirror is strong enough and well supported.
Give your Child an exclusive Shelf
Organise your child’s toys in an easy-to-access shelf. Let your child arrange his toys in the low-lying shelves that he can open and close. This will help him to pick his own toys and learn to arrange them. Make sure that none of the toys have small parts that he can swallow.
Keep your Child away from Gadgets
Music is a wonderful thing to make your toddler dance to the beats. Children are naturally attracted to sound. Avoid handing them over with electronic gadgets like smartphones or tablets. Instead, have a music system or play music on TV. This will keep your child active and moving.
Let your child draw his Imaginations
You must have noticed kids doodle on wall or floor. They may not make proper alphabets or letters but learn to draw shapes. Get an attractive drawing board for your child. It can be a large slate with attractive and colorful borders. Let your child explore and draw simple shapes like line, circle, semicircle etc. Be careful that they do not put pencil in their mouth.
Take your child to a Garden
Take your child to play ground where they can run around or walk in the fresh air. You can start with a small garden in your home. Your kid will get to play with other children and learn new things. Remember that exposure is very important to the overall development of your child.
