IN BENGALURU— In Bengaluru, double-decker tourist buses have returned after being taken off the roads for almost 30 years. They give locals and tourists a new way to see the city’s sights. The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation has started a tourist service that lets people hop on and off at different stops. The goal is to increase urban tourism and show off Bengaluru’s history.

Famous buses are coming back

New double-decker buses, which are commonly known as “Ambari” buses, were launched as part of a test project to improve viewing in the city. These kinds of buses are back on the road after being taken out of service for almost 29 years because of problems with operations and infrastructure.

Up to 40 people can fit on each bus. The lower deck is air-conditioned and has comfy seats. The open-top upper deck has a view of the whole city, so people can enjoy Bengaluru’s streets, parks, and historic buildings from a higher point of view.

Hop-on, hop-off model that is flexible

Through a system called “hop-on, hop-off,” riders can board and get off the bus at any time during the day. Without being stuck to a set tour plan, this model lets tourists enjoy sites at their own pace.

The test path starts and finishes at Ravindra Kalakshetra and goes through a number of important parts of downtown Bengaluru. These include important roads, museums, government buildings, and sports arenas. They give a full picture of the city’s historical and functional center.

Low-cost fares and daily operations

The tour buses run every day from early morning until early evening. A reasonable price for a full-day pass is meant to attract more tourists, families, and people who live in the area. Tickets let people travel on the route as many times as they want during the day, which makes it easier for people to plan trips that include more than one stop.

Tourism officials said the prices were kept low so that both local tourists and Bengaluru residents who want to relearn the city’s history would be able to afford them.

Making plans to grow

The present service is being run as a test, according to the government. If the reaction from passengers is good, the route could be extended to include more tourist spots across the city. More historic places and popular public spots could be added to the proposed additions.

But officials said that the growth will depend on checks of the equipment and how safe the roads are. When planning their routes, double-decker buses need to be very careful to stay away from low bridges, overhead wires, and small roads that could be dangerous.

Help for city tourism

People involved in tourism have been happy about the return of double-decker buses, calling them a romantic and useful addition to Bengaluru’s tourist attractions. The service should be useful for both first-time guests and people who live in the city but want to see it from a different angle.

The project is part of larger attempts to encourage eco-friendly and experience-based tourism in cities. The return of double-decker tourist buses is seen as a way to make Bengaluru a more appealing place to visit because they combine history, ease of use, and low cost.
