The last part of the Delhi to Mumbai Expressway that connects Delhi, Faridabad, and Sohna is almost finished, which could mean big changes in how people get around every day. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently inspected the key section connecting the DND Flyway to Jaitpur. This section is expected to make travel between Delhi and Faridabad much faster.
The first part of the project could be up and running in a few weeks, according to officials. Once it’s open, the tunnel should cut the time it takes to get from Delhi to Faridabad to about 20 minutes when traffic is light. The access controlled Expressway is meant to let people drive without stopping at traffic lights and ease the load on DelhiNCR’s already heavy roads.
NCR commuters can travel faster and without a signal
The new Expressway section is part of the Delhi to Mumbai Expressway project, one of India’s largest highway building initiatives. The Delhi section starts near Maharani Bagh and the DND Flyway. It then goes through Kalindi Kunj, Jaitpur, and Faridabad, and finally connects with the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Haryana.
Right now, during rush hour, getting from Delhi to Faridabad can take up to an hour, or even longer, because of traffic jams and lights. People travelling to Haryana and further on to Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra should have a much better trip with the new Expressway link.
The six lane access controlled road should help people going to and from work, public transport and travelling between cities. Officials think the project will also help reduce congestion on some Delhi roads by diverting long distance traffic away from the city center.
Big push for infrastructure in Delhi and the NCR
During the review, Nitin Gadkari pointed out that in the Delhi-NCR area, highway projects worth almost ₹34,000 crore are either being planned or are already being built. To bring the region’s transport system up to date, these include tunnels, raised roads, ring roads and new Expressway links.
Officials say the bigger goal is to build a road network that is ready for the future and can handle the fast growing number of cars in the capital region. Gadkari also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi might be asked to open the newly finished part when the last bit of work is done.
Rekha Gupta, the chief minister of Delhi, also praised the speed at which infrastructure was being built. She said that these kinds of projects would help ease traffic and make it easier to get around the NCR.
The Expressway is seen as a key part of the Centre’s long term plan for improving urban transport, especially since Delhi and other nearby towns are growing quickly.
Major Improvements to the Links at Jewar Airport
The Expressway will make it easier to reach the new Noida International Airport at Jewar, one of its biggest benefits. A 31.5-km connecting road to the Expressway is currently being built. This will make traveling to the airport from South Delhi and nearby areas much faster.
When the tunnel is fully open, officials expect people traveling from South Delhi to Jewar Airport to reach their destination in about 45 minutes. This would create one of the fastest airport connectivity routes in the NCR region.
Better connections should also help people who live in Faridabad, Noida, and Greater Noida, making movement within the area easier and faster. As more factories and homes are built in the NCR belt, the area could become an important route for shipping and business in the future.

Amazing engineering work and green building
Aside from better connections, the project is also getting attention for its high tech building features. One of the best things about the route is the brand new Network Arch Bridge. It is said that the bridge has high tensile steel systems, improved bearings, and expansion joints that are made to last longer and move more smoothly.
Officials have said that it is one of the most technologically advanced bridges ever built in the area. Along with being an important technical success, the bridge looks amazing thanks to its huge pier caps and tall arch structure.
As part of the project, steps are also being taken to protect the environment. Reports say that the government is creating open spaces and planting trees near places that used to be industrial dumps that are connected to the route.
There is a new era of highway connectivity
When it’s finished, the Delhi to Mumbai Expressway will change the way people drive long distances in India. The giant Expressway will connect Delhi and Mumbai faster and more efficiently. It will go through several states.
For people who live in Delhi NCR, the opening of the DND-Jaitpur stretch could change how they get to work every day. Better access to future building projects, shorter travel times, and roads without traffic lights are all expected to change how people move around in the area.
As the last steps are being made, people in Delhi, Faridabad, and nearby towns are waiting for the project that will change the way people move in the NCR to officially start.
