There was tension in the air at Dubai’s ICC Academy Ground when arch-rivals India and Pakistan locked horns in the high-voltage finale of U19 Asia Cup 2025. In a game that had already justified the “high-voltage” tag, fans got to see some world-class batting, aggressive pace bowling and the raw, unedited emotions that make this historic rivalry what it is.
Although Pakistan had set an intimidating target with a staggering century, the Indian chase got off to a blazing start that also featured a few heated moments as Indian captain Ayush Mhatre lost his cool at one point.

Flashpoint: Ayush Mhatre vs Ali Raza
India required a solid start chasing 348 on these shores. But the intensity of the final over got to them in only their second set. Indian captain Ayush Mhatre, who has scored big after big in the competition so far was out off just 2 runs when he mistimed a full delivery from Pakistani pacer Ali Raza straight to the mid-off.
Whilst Mhatre trudged back to the pavilion, Pakistani fielders, Raza included, resorted to some send off tactics. Mhatre, who usually kept his cool, reacted and then turned to face the bowler and slip cordon. Umpires on the field of play intervened to break up the players and defuse the situation. It was an incident that underlined the “no-handshake” fervor that has come to define the tension between these two sides during this tournament.
Prodigy at 14: The Fearlessness of Vaibhav Suryavanshi
But India’s youngest star, Vaibhav Suryavanshi didn’t let the loss of his captain early on intimidate him. Suryavanshi, aged only 14, proved why he is being spoken of as the next big thing in Indian cricket. As wickets fell at the other end — including those of Aaron George and Vihaan Malhotra –Suryavanshi took on the Pakistani bowlers.
Aggression: In a blaze of sixes, Suryavanshi cracked three big ones off the meat-22 in total, as many as Bista and Sarfaraz Khan first-on way to 26 from only 18 runs to clear them beyond the ropes as though disposing of waste.
A ‘Life’ at Third Man: The youngster’s adventurous batting could have come in early if he had forced Raza to hold on to a straightforward chance at third man.
Standout Performer: Suryavanshi kept the fire burning for his side alone in the powerplays, batting at a strike rate of 140+ and pushing the run-rate to stem from flying out of control early in their innings.
Pakistan’s Gargantuan Total: The Sameer Minhas Show
Earlier, after being put in to bat, Pakistan rode on Imam’s brilliant 151-run knock to post an imposing 347/8 in their 50 overs. The man of the morning for Green was Sameer Minhas with an unforgettable innings that goes in to record books.
Minhas destroyed the Indian bowling as he plundered 172 off 113 balls. His innings was an exhibition of modern white-ball batting, containing 17 fours and 9 sixes. At one point, Pakistan seemed on course for a total well in excess of 400, but a fine fightback from the Indian pacers over the last ten overs arrested proceedings. Bowling performance of the day Deepesh Devendran was India’s best bowler on the day with 3/83 apart from Khilan Patel, who picked spinners and wrapped up two crucial wickets in Ahmed Hussain (56) and Usman Khan (35) towards middle overs.
The Young Colts’ Path in the Future
With India 50/3 in the early part of the chase, the hill to climb is still quite high. The middle order, including the Abhigyan Kundu’s of the side, will also have to play out of their skin to fill that void. The game still teetering on a knife edge: for all that Pakistan now has the runs and momentum from those early wickets, the flat deck in Dubai and tiny boundaries mean India is never out of it so long as they can get in a partnership.
U-19 Asia Cup 2025 final: The Indo-Pak cricket rivalry has found new bastion in the form of ICC U19 World Cup. Whether its Mhatre’s steely eyed defiance or Suryavanshi’s towering sixes, the “Boys in Blue” are fighting for every inch on their way to a record extending 12th title.
