One of the passengers of Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi has accused an Air India Express pilot of assaulting him over a boarding issue, suggesting that the incident has rendered him bloody and in need of treatment. The event has generated a lot of buzz on social media and has also made the airline initiate an internal investigation.

The photos and video clips posted on social media depicted the injured face of the passenger, who was Saket Sharma. The video immediately spread like wildfire, with the whole world offering widespread criticism and concern about the behaviour of airlines and the conduct of airport employees.
Passenger Says He Was Hit After Seeking Information
As Sharma claims, the incident started as he came to the cabin crew and the pilot at the aircraft door to inquire why the plane was slow to board, along with seeking clarification regarding the confusion in seating arrangements. He claimed that he was attacked by the pilot, who was hostile, prior to being attacked.
Sharma reported that he was hit on the face and fell on the floor, and started bleeding. He also argued that there was no immediate medical assistance. The passenger posted on social media that he was going to complain to the police about the pilot’s assault.
According to sources at the airport, Sharma was first given first aid in the medical centre and then taken for further examination.
Eyewitness Accounts Offer Conflicting Details
Although it is alleged by Sharma that he was assaulted without provocation, there were reported cases in which he got into heated arguments with airline employees whom he accused of rude behaviour. Some of the travellers described the discussion as getting out of control very quickly, though they were not present at the point of physical contact. Others claimed that the pilot intervened to calm down the argument before it became violent.
Security officials at the boarding gate informed reporters that the crew members appeared upset and demanded that the police intervene following the fight. CCTV images have been removed from the gate and will be examined by the police.
Air India Express Issues Statement, Promises Investigation
Air India Express has accepted the accident and has affirmed that it is conducting a thorough investigation. The airline, in a statement, said that it will not condone violence in any way and has been in touch with the passenger. The airline also promised that something would be done accordingly in accordance with findings and policy.
Although the pilot at the heart of the controversy has not come out to speak publicly on the issue, the airline refused to release a statement on his position until the investigation is completed. The airport officials may be asked to provide further testimony as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a formal report on the same.
According to industry analysts, passenger staff clashes have increased in different airlines in the last two years, and most of them relate to schedule delays, an increase in queues, and shortages in staff workload, particularly during peak seasons.
Police Complaint Likely as Legal Angle Emerges
A case is supposed to be registered by the authorities after Sharma writes a formal complaint. According to the experts in law, the pilot may be charged with the aspects of causing pain, assault, or provocation based on the outcome of the investigation. In the meantime, the union officials have insisted on transparency, and once again, the aviation employees are not to engage in physical conflict despite provocation.
Airport police assured that they will use CCTV evidence, medical reports, and witnesses’ statements. They also observed that the security personnel in aviation recorded the incident and documented the passenger’s physical injuries.
Air Rage Cases Rise, Questions Raised About Staff Training
The crash revitalizes the discussion of stress, fatigue, and pressure on crew members of flying aircraft amid abnormal schedules and high demand for travel. Several incidents of mid-air and on-ground violence have caught attention this year, which has led to the demand for increased training on how to handle conflicts and passengers.
The travel groups claimed that accountability should be made transparent to gain trust back. Concurrently, a number of social media users lamented what they termed as a wider trend of declining customer experience in Indian aviation.
The case is still under consideration since the airline and authorities are still gathering evidence. Sharma responded that he will take the matter to the court of law and that he wants tighter laws to be enforced to keep passengers safe, and that he is hoping that such accidents do not occur in the future.
