After the release of his Haryanvi song “Tateeree,” the well-known Indian rapper Badshah has found himself in hot water with the law. The music video has drawn criticism from all over for allegedly including offensive lyrics and images that express a disrespectful attitude towards women, often obscenity. After concerned citizens and various activists filed complaints, the police registered a case against Badshah and have initiated efforts to locate and arrest him.

A formal complaint of indecency was filed against Badshah with the Cyber Crime Police Station located in Panchkula, Haryana. The formal complaint, that was submitted to the police, accused Badshah of violating laws regarding indecency by way of his lyrics, gestures and visuals presented within the music video that were indecent in nature. The formal complaint also claimed that there are scenes in the music video where women were dressed in school uniforms and exhibited sexually suggestive behaviour.
The police department for the area is currently conducting an investigation into the formal complaints made regarding Badshah’s lyrics and music video and whether or not any violations of the law occurred. The police department is aware of several laws that have potentially been violated by Badshah’s lyrics and visuals from the song, including Law 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.
As a result, the police have conducted many successful raids while searching for Badshah. Multiple teams have been organized to conduct raids at different locations where it was possible for Badshah to be located. The police confirmed that raids will be executed on several locations in their search for Badshah so that they can arrest him and interrogate him in relation to this specific case.
Additionally, the police have served Notice to Badshah and directed him to appear before the Chief Investigation Officer regarding this investigation. If Badshah fails to cooperate with this investigation, there may be further scrutiny of Badshah and he may be subject to additional charges, or more serious charges, on his behalf.
Police have stated that legal action may also be taken against any person or organization that is found to have shared or posted the objectionable video content that is the subject of the current criminal investigation, as Badshah’s controversial video currently exists on YouTube.

Look Out Circular Issued
A significant move has been taken by the police with respect to initiating the process for issuing a Look Out Circular (LOC) against rapper Badshah. The LOC usually serves to prevent any accused person from leaving the country during the course of an investigation.
Officials have said that an LOC was necessary to prevent Badshah from travelling outside the country before his appearance at the police station. The LOC will act as a warning to all immigration authorities in all airports and border areas of India to prevent him from exiting the country.
The issuance of this circular further demonstrates the seriousness with which the authorities are treating this investigation, as well as the seriousness with which the investigating authorities intend to use all means available to obtain Badshah’s presence for questioning.

With all the backlash surrounding the rap artist’s work, Badshah issued a public apology about the incident on social media. In his statement, he expressed regret for the action taken and asked for forgiveness, adding that he is “a son of Haryana” to clarify his connection to the state.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the legal process continues as law enforcement continues its search for evidence to build a case against the artist.
