The veteran Malayalam actor and filmmaker, Sreenivisan, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025. He is an actor, a director, a film producer and a screenwriter. He is an eminent figure in South Indian cinema. He succumbed to a prolonged period of illness. However, his legacy has shaped the artistic contour of the Malayalam film industry for approximately 5 decades at a stretch.

Sreenivisan took his last breath in Kochi. Although he was under medical care for a long span of time, his health kept deteriorating despite the ongoing treatment. He was also admitted to a local hospital in Thrippunithura. His health condition kept worsening, and he finally died on Saturday morning. The exact medical cause of his demise is still unknown. However, it is indicative that his age-related issues and health complications contributed to his death.

Sreenivisan was born on 6th of April, 1955, in Patyam near Thalassery. It is situated in the Kannur district in Kerala. His journey in cinema started during the late 1970s, and his formal training continued at the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu in Chennai. The early years of his career are evidence of how a promising newcomer turned into a respected actor and a storyteller of Indian cinema. He appeared in more than 225 films and in several characters that reflected the anxieties, hopes, and contradictions of the regular Malayali lifestyle.
