According to an official report to PTI, popular director Vikram Bhatt and his wife were arrested in Rajasthan last month in a case involving theft worth ₹30 crore. The couple was taken into custody after a report was made by a Udaipur-based doctor, who claimed that he was cheated out of crores. Dr Ajay Murdia, who started the Indira Group of Companies and is based in Udaipur, claims that Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari Bhatt, and six others owe him 30 crore rupees.

Vikram Bhatt and his wife were arrested
A month ago, Dr Ajay Murdia reported that Vikram Bhatt and his wife had tricked him into investing more than 30 crore rupees in a movie about his late wife. He claimed that he was offered a lot of money, but it never happened. Murdia wanted to make a movie about his deceased wife, and he is the owner of Indira IVF Hospital.
He claims that he was offered Rs 200 crore in salary. But nothing came of it, and Murdia went to the Bhopalpura police station in Udaipur, where an FIR was filed for cheating and other crimes, the source told PTI. Murdia, who works in the field of female infertility with a business he runs all over India, said that Vikram Bhatt and the others who were charged with him tricked him with lies about the big money he could make from making films.

What are the charges against Vikram Bhatt and his wife?
The police’s first investigation shows that the person who is guilty was introduced to Dr Ajay Murdia by a friend who suggested making a biographical movie about his dead wife.
Police said that in May 2024, an agreement was written up between Murdia and the Bhatts to make four films, including the biopic. The deal was worth 47 crore rupees. The police said that the first two projects were finished, but the rest of the pictures were never made.
The Udaipur police investigation found that the people charged with this crime made fake papers, like bills from sellers that didn’t exist, to trick the person who complained out of a lot of money. The police said that the person who was accused planned to trick the accuser by making fake bills, inflated coupons, and fake records of salaries and bills that looked real. A PTI story says they stole about 30 crore rupees from Murdia.
The Times of India (TOI) was told by sources that a group of Udaipur police worked with the Mumbai police to arrest the couple at Bhatt’s sister’s house in Andheri. They were made in Mumbai before a holiday judge. After the suspects were produced in court, the Rajasthan Police asked for a two-day transit arrest to be able to take them from Mumbai to Udaipur by road for more questioning and to continue with the case.
The Udaipur team had a warrant for arrest. The judge allowed the police to take them to Rajasthan on “two days’ transit remand.” A Mumbai police officer told the Times of India, “Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal told TOI they would be brought to the city.”
Vikram Bhatt replies
Vikram Bhatt said the cops were “misguided” and rejected the claims. Udaipur cops put out a watch alert for Bhatt and his wife last week. The FIR also names their daughter, Krishna Bhatt.
