Yesterday, the honorable Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, inaugurated the Semiconductor ATMP, i.e., Assembly, Test, and Packaging facility during his recent visit to Gujarat. Named Micron Semiconductor Technology India Private Limited, the inauguration marks a remarkable achievement in our country’s semiconductor manufacturing sector. The launch of Micron Semiconductor Technology in Gujarat also marks the commencement of commercial shipments and production of the first Indian-made semiconductor memory modules from the ATMP facility in Sanand, Gujarat.
Company Invested Rs 22,516 crore for the Sanand Plant
A government press release revealed that the Micron Facility of Sanand will manufacture SSD i.e. Solid-State Drive storage devices. Also, the company will make NAND and DRAM products of RAM type. For this, the company invested approximately Rs 22,516 crore for its inaugurated Sanand plant. A prime highlight of the Micron facility is that it is about 500,000 square feet of the cleanroom space to be one of the largest raised-floor cleanrooms of the world.
An Initiative to Strengthen Country’s Position in Semiconductor Value Chain
The development by PM Narendra Modi highlights a key initiative to strengthen India’s position in the worldwide semiconductor value chain. PM Modi addressed the public on this occasion, saying that the recent AI Impact Summit held in India had introduced the world to India’s existing AI capabilities. The honorable Prime Minister also asserted that the microchip will be the regulator of the present and upcoming centuries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly emphasized that the historic inauguration day serves as a testament to India’s commitment to being a leader in semiconductor technology. In this way, India is making a drastic shift from its recognition in the software industry to the world of hardware systems and global value chains.
He even marked the occasion as a collaboration between India and the United States to secure humanity’s global supply chain, especially in AI, the chip industry, and other critical sectors. PM Modi primarily highlighted several rapid developments at the new semiconductor plant from its MoU to the start of commercial production. According to PM Modi, “Our every initiative will give a clear message to the whole world, i.e., India is ready and is also reliable for quality delivery.”

PM’s Plan on Semiconductor Mission 2.0 and Global Semiconductor Projects
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also highlighted the Semiconductor Mission 2.0 and the global approval of ten big projects, which combined to create a Pan-India ecosystem starting from Sanand in Gujarat to Assam and Noida. Modi ji also praised Micron’s leadership for its aspirations to grow with the increasing demands for automobiles and electronic devices. He mentioned that the current decade will be a turning point for the young people of India, as it proves to be competitive and capable.
Union Minister’s Opinion on the Semiconductor Deal
Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Information Technology and Electronics have also said that the semiconductor industry today serves as a foundational industry for India. He also said that the electronics manufacturers have registered sixfold growth and electronics exporters have made an eightfold growth under PM Modi’s leadership. He said that mobile phones have become one of the top exported items in India. According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, “India has now strongly established its position as an electronics manufacturer on the global map. The chips, which were early designed in India will now be manufactured in India as well.”
