The Cockroach Janta Party, which got a lot of attention on social media, had a rude awakening at its Lucknow protest, where the turnout at Eco Garden was much smaller than expected. The movement says it has millions of online supporters, but it couldn’t get even close to the number of people who follow it online.

The party’s protest in Lucknow was part of a larger effort to stop what they say are problems with competitive exams. At Eco Garden, students, people looking for work, and friends met. Abhijeet Dipke, the head of CJP, joined the protest. The protest was mostly about requests related to exams and being responsible.

But the gathering became a talking point because the number of people there seemed much smaller than the movement’s claimed online following. Concerns were raised about the movement’s power beyond digital platforms due to the discrepancy between the number of people who joined on social media and those who actually joined.

Exam worries and student issues are at the heart of the protest

The Lucknow protest was mostly made up of students studying for tests to get jobs with the government and other challenging tests. Protesters were worried about what they said were problems with the exam system and wanted the officials to do something.

Young people are interested in the movement as it presents itself as a voice for those who are fed up with exam related problems, worries about unemployment, and delays that hinder job prospects. Someone from the CJP posted a message online quickly, and it quickly became a social media campaign that led to protests in the streets of many towns.

In Lucknow, the protesters met at Eco Garden, where some candidates spoke about their concerns for the future of kids taking standardised tests. The protest was part of a larger movement that had already caused trouble elsewhere.

Millions of fans, but not much on the street

Officials say plans have been made for three days and that information has been shared with police departments and district offices across the state so they can monitor conditions and take preventive measures. Even though the number was higher than expected, officials said that only about 1,500 protesters showed up.

Not only was this less than what the officials thought they would get, but it was also less than the number of people who follow the political front on social media. Over 22.6 million people follow the party on Instagram, and over 277,000 people follow it on X.

This means that only 0.007% of the almost 23 million people who follow the account showed up to the protest in Lucknow. About 1 out of every 15,251 fans went to the protest in Lucknow, and 99.993% of its internet followers didn’t show up either.

The nationwide campaign is led by Abhijeet Dipke

The effort has been led by Abhijeet Dipke, the head of the CJP, who has taken the cause to different places. There had already been protests across the country before the one in Lucknow.

Dipke and people who supported him have said that the protests were peaceful attempts to bring up issues in a fair way. This group has kept upping its demands and has reached young people across the country through social media.

The movement quickly became well known thanks to its strange name and sarcastic style. What began as a campaign on the internet grew into a public protest movement that got both praise and criticism.

Support from the ground is important for the movement’s future

The Cockroach Janta Party wants to be more than just famous online, and the protest in Lucknow has become a big deal for them. Even though the group has shown it can get people’s attention on social media, it is still very hard to build a strong real presence.

The number of people who showed up at Eco Garden showed that just because you have millions of fans doesn’t mean that all of those followers will show up to protests. How CJP affects the world may depend on how well it can turn online fans into engaged players.

For now, the event in Lucknow has shown the difference between internet impact and action in the real world. People are still paying attention to the movement, but how far it can go will depend on how well it can keep up its support on the ground.
