Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited victims injured in the hotel fire in Malviya Nagar on Thursday. She assured them they would receive assistance from the Delhi government, including visiting patients receiving care at Max Hospital, Saket, meeting with those patients’ families, and overseeing their medical treatment. The Chief Minister also directed government officials to ensure the injured receive quality care and that no assistance is unmet.
Delhi Ex-Gratia for Families of Deceased Victims is Rs 10 lakh
The Delhi Government announced it would provide Rs 10 lakh as ex gratia for the families of each individual killed in the incident. Individuals who suffered significant injuries will receive an additional Rs 5 lakh in financial assistance. The Chief Minister’s Office states this assistance is intended to support the families during this painful event.
The Delhi Government has also stated it will work with the appropriate hospitals to cover medical expenses for all injured persons. Officials have been instructed to provide any available assistance to victims and their families.

Tragic Fire Claimed 21 Lives
The Tuesday afternoon fire at a bed & breakfast hotel in Hauz Rani, Malviya Nagar in south Delhi erupted out of control, making it one of the worst fires in recent memory in the city. At least 21 people have died and others injured. Several of the victims were foreign guests who were staying at the hotel.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic as the guests tried to escape. Reports indicate that several people jumped off upper floors in an attempt to escape the flames. Emergency personnel quickly arrived and conducted rescues.
Many Injured Remain in Serious Condition
Medical officials report that many of the injured are still in serious condition. Many of the injuries resulted from burns and smoke inhalation. Some of the people being treated are on ventilators while receiving critical care; a majority of those being treated are foreign nationals.
According to Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Legislative Assembly Satish Upadhyay, who was present during the visit from the Chief Minister, the condition of many of the patients has improved since the previous 24 hours. He noted that all patients are under the care of their doctors.
Government Assures Comprehensive Support
After speaking with the victims, The Chief Minister stated that the top priority of the government is to make sure the injured receive proper care and that they recover as well as possible. The Chief Minister’s office pointed out that there are also plans in place to help get the deceased back to their hometowns so that their loved ones can complete the final rites without suffering further from this tragedy.
The Administration has committed to helping hospitals and agencies so that the needs of the survivors can be met. A directive to remain connected with the families of survivors and provide assistance as needed is being given to officials as well.
A number of National Leaders conveyed their condolences
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his sadness at the loss of life and extended his condolences to the families who were impacted. The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to those who died and Rs 50,000 to each of the injured through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, also expressed his condolences and stated that the Ministry of External Affairs will coordinate with other governments’ embassies to assist those who were overseas due to the incident.

Investigation Underway
