In the very centre of the capital of the country, under the towering archway of the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, a novel chapter in the lives of the daughters of Delhi is being composed. On March 2, 2026, President Droupadi Murmu officially opened the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, a massive social welfare project intended to make sure that every girl born in an economically disadvantaged family has a Lakh in her pocket and a degree in her hand.
The event, named Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi (Empowered Woman, Prosperous Delhi), was not merely a roll out of policies, it was a very human thing. When President Murmu, whose own rise to the top had been the greatest example of the plan, a woman raised in a little village in Odisha and taken to Rashtrapati Bhavan, came on stage, the expectancies of thousands of parents and young girls crackled with his presence.
Out of the Ledger: A Security to Enterprise
The Ladli scheme was a support system to girls in the City of Delhi that has been there since decades. Things have however changed, as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during the launch observed. Professional diploma cost or college degree has also increased and in most cases forced families with less resources to withdraw their girls out of school when they are on the verge of finishing their studies.
The government has promised to put a minimum of 56,000 in installments, commencing the moment a girl is born. At the age of 21, with the magic of accrued interest by Dhanrashi Sadhan of the SBI Life Insurance, the corpus will be over 1 lakh.

Humanizing the Digital Leap
The 100 percent digital framework is one of the major changes in this 2026 version of the scheme. Many families in the past missed out on benefits due to the so-called lost paperwork, or the too complicated task of going to government offices. Nowadays, it is a smooth procedure.
Registration may be at any age in a period of one year. All accounts of the beneficiaries are connected to her Aadhaar and money transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). To celebrate this digital revolution, the President also initiated the Meri Punji, Mera Adhikar program, which instantly matured ₹100.25 crore of pending maturity balances of more than 40000 girls of the older Ladli scheme.

A Gift for the Festive Season
The opening ceremony was loaded with two-fold good news to the underprivileged families of Delhi. President Murmu and CM Gupta also introduced a plan of offering two free LPG cylinders every year one during Holi and the other during Diwali to almost 15.5 lakh ration cardholder families as they knew that the coming festival season would increase their financial burden.
