Over 2,500 people took part in the event, and they were all working to protect and use water in a healthy way. The Indian Plumbing Association put on the Neerathon, which was sponsored by Jaquar Group. It added to the building energy of the #ISaveWater movement. The event is still held in honour of Shri N.L. Mehra, who started the Jaquar Group.
Key offices of the Indian government
like the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, backed the event. This shows that water sustainability is becoming more important to institutions.
This year was a big step forward because the Half Marathon (21.1 km) was added, and over 700 people signed up for that alone. A wide range of runners from education, industry, leisure, and business sectors took part in the 3 km fun run, 5 km timed run, and 10 km timed run. This made the Neerathon a truly cross-sectoral movement.
Adding a cultural touch to the event, famous Hindi poetess Ranjeeta Sahay Ashesh read a specially written song about saving water, which got a lot of applause from the crowd. Children from the Prajna Foundation further engaged the audience with a themed skit called “Jal Hai to Kal Hai,” which emphasised how important it is to save water.
Six people with disabilities (deaf and dumb) took part in the Neerathon, showing that it was still an inclusive event. Two of the players also used sign language to talk about saving water, which made the moment strong and interesting for everyone in the room.
