Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be going to Kerala and Tamil Nadu on March 11, 2026 in a major infrastructure and regional self-reliance push visit. The visit is the turning point of the Southern India because the Prime Minister presents a colossal development package worth more than 16450 crore. The projects aim at connecting the rural India with the industrial heartlands of the country, spanning across the spectrum of energy, high-speed connectivity and rural revitalization.

The tour will be divided into two big legs: mid-day visit to Ernakulam, Kerala, and evening visit to Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. The figures are astounding but the real-life behind these figures will be the lives that will be touched by these projects such as the daily commuter in Kozhikode to the migrant worker in Tiruppur.

Building the Kerala Spine: The 10,800 Crore Kerala upgrade

The initial destination of the Prime Minister in Ernakulam is a serious concentration of modernization of the industries and fast transit. The centre of this visit is the laying of foundation stone of a Polypropylene Unit in the Kochi Refinery (BPCL). This unit which has cost the company ₹5,500 crore or so is not simply a chemical plant but a step towards a Plastic-Neutral state of self-reliance. India, by manufacturing 400 kilo tonnes of polymer per year, wants to reduce its reliance on imports to package goods, medical machinery, and automobile components.

Redefining the Road Trip

Since time immemorial, the trip to north Kerala had been associated with winding streets and snail neck traffic. That changes today. Two of the big six-laning projects will be opened by PM Modi:

  • Thalapady to Chengala (NH-66): This road has been built at 2,650 crore and is an important artery of the Mumbai-Kanyakumari Economic Corridor.
  • Kozhikode Bypass: A 2,140 crore infrastructure that converts a single road into a six-lane highway which has reduced the time spent on the road to a mere 15 minutes. This is the end of a long standing logistical nightmare of local traders at Beypore Port and tourists to Kappad Beach.

The Human Side of the Rails

Outside the asphalt, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is reviving the Kerala traditional railway hubs. Shoranur Junction, Kuttippuram, and Changanassery stations have been redeveloped to provide the airport-like experience namely lifts, escalators, and free Wi-Fi but keeping the local architectural spirit. It is also guaranteed that the electrification of the Shoranur-Nilambur line will make the rail route in India to be greenest as it remains environmental friendly as well.

Leap: Energy for the Kitchen and Rails for the People, Tamil Nadu

When the sun goes down in Tiruchirappalli, the Prime Minister will commit by giving Tamil Nadu projects worth 5650 crore. When the theme of Kerala is industrial scale, that of Tamil Nadu is that of the Direct Impact.

Piped Gas for 8 Lakh Homes

The project that is the most humanizing in the Tamil Nadu leg is the introduction of City Gas Distribution (CGD) Network to The Nilgiris and Erode. The project will include piping natural gas (PNG) directly into the kitchens of more than 8.8 lakh families and is going to cost ₹3,680 crore. A direct gas line is a revolution to families in the hilly regions of Nilgiris where the cylinders are a logistical challenge to transport.

The Amrit Bharat Express Bridge: Home

The most emotional experience of the visit may be perhaps the flagging off of new train services, such as the Podanur-Dhanbad Amrit Bharat Express. It is not a train, it is a door opening, said one of the representatives of the Southern Railway, into which the worker, who lives 2,000 kilometers away, has arrived.

Tiruppur and Coimbatore textile industries operate on millions of migrant workers, specifically those in the East. In the past, commuting home would take days and a number of connections. This non-AC low-cost service links directly the industrial heart of the South to the power belt of the East, to assure its workers who are creating the nation of the ability to reach their families with dignity and comfort.
