Indian Railways has announced that the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile app which is used to book unreserved tickets and platform tickets, will be discontinued from 1st March 2026. After this date, the UTS application will no longer be functional or have support regarding ticketing services.
This decision is part of a wider digital transformation plan; it aims to consolidate the various railway applications into a single, unified platform, thus facilitating the ease of ticketing and providing passenger services across the entire country.
RailOne is to take over the function of UTS as the only official app for booking unreserved tickets on Indian Railways once the UTS application is discontinued; making bookings for:
- Unreserved/general bookings
- Platform tickets
- Season and monthly tickets (migrated from UTS)
RailOne is designed to be an all in one railway application combining all services from previously multiple railway applications; in addition to public ticketing functions, it includes the following additional features:
- PNR status check and live train tracking
- Reserved ticketing (in conjunction with the IRCTC application)
- Real time coach positions and platform numbers
- Filing complaints (“Rail-Madad”)
- E-Catering integration
- Digital wallets and payment options
RailOne will allow customers to log in with their existing credentials for UTS and RailConnect relieving them from having to re-register when they switch over to RailOne.
Reasons For The Change
Because of the goals and objectives of Indian Railways regarding the transition from the use of UTS to the one mobile application called RailOne.
- Enhance passenger experience. Instead of multiple apps providing different functions, having one single application will improve the effectiveness of the app features for finding and using them;
- Increase digital use. Encouraging passengers to digitise from traditional face-to-face service counters (where they typically had to go to T.M. or retail locations in order to purchase train tickets) will result in the move to a complete digital service experience;
- Reduce operational silos. By consolidating ticketing, information, and support into one platform;
Railway Officials maintain that this consolidated approach will provide a more robust and scalable system that will meet the demands of millions of passengers per day, across the country.
Incentives to Switch
As a means of encouraging passengers to rapidly transition from UTS to RailOne, Indian Railways has created an incentive to transition:
- 3% discount on unreserved ticket purchases through RailOne using any digital payment method (i.e., UPI, debit/credit card) between 14th January 2026 until 14th July 2026;
- The existing 3% bonus for R-Wallet transactions will continue unchanged.
These two offers are intended to assist in completing the transition to RailOne and providing a reward for using the app prior to the official closure of UTS.
What Passengers Need to Do Now?
Travelers transitioning to RailOne should follow these 5 steps:
- Download the RailOne app via Google Play or the App Store if you haven’t done so already.
- Log into your UTS or RailConnect accounts to save past booking items and preferences in your new profile.
- Transfer all existing season tickets/wallet balances to RailOne before March 1, 2026. Most will automatically migrate, however please verify its completed before the deadline.
- Effective March 1, 2022, all ticket purchases will be through the RailOne app rather than through UTS.
- Commuters, in particular, those who utilize unreserved books/platform tickets may want to begin switching over sooner than later to reduce any potential last-minute inconveniences.
