With 3 Idiots being the blockbuster of Rajkumar Hirani, directed 16 years after the movie was released, new speculation of a potential sequel was once again unleashed and actor Sharman Joshi came out with his view on the long-running rumours. Although fans remain hopeful of a reunion of the legendary trio, the actor has clarified that there has been no formal confirmation yet.

I Wish It Would Happen, Says Sharman Joshi
In response to a report that there was a possibility of a sequel to the 3 Idiots movie being made with the same cast, Sharman Joshi stated that he had not been informed of the subject matter.
The actor, who would love it to happen, said that he had not heard any news yet, but that the rumours had been made several other times in the years without actually coming to pass.

The Preceding Sequel Buzz Produced Ad Campaigns
Joshi remembered that the previous news concerning the sequel had actually ended up being a promotion campaign other than a film.
There has been talk of the sequel to the 3 Idiots more than twice. The most recent occasion on which the reports were received was identified as an ad campaign. Hopefully, maybe now it is true, he said.
He mentioned that the story would only be continued in a real manner, which would solely rely on the director Rajkumar Hirani and his main creative team.
Decision to be made by the Creators Only, Says Actor
Joshi responded that he could not say whether the story of Rancho, Farhan and Raju has room to have a sequel.
I do not know, I am just the master, Raju sir, Abhijat (Joshi) sir and Aamir, would be working on it provided that there is a possibility, he said of the director Rajkumar Hirani, writer Abhijat Joshi and actor Aamir Khan.
A Retrospective of 3 Idiots as a Career Break
Drawing on the influence of the movie, Joshi characterised 3 Idiots as a sort of fairytale experience that she can still remember to date. He remembered the time Hirani had asked him to abandon his gym routine while making the film so he could match the role.
I remember 3 Idiots, and a smile appears on my face. It is a magical feeling since I heard the story until today, he said.
The actor also revealed the emotionally packed suicide attempt scene in the film, in which Hirani re-edited the scene with cutaway shots to make it more effective.
The Emotional Effect of Film Still Lingers
Joshi explained that the scene was so memorable to viewers, including his family. He remembered how people used to call his parents after watching the film to ask whether he is okay, and during the premiere, his young daughter was seriously touched. He said she was only four years old and had cried hysterically during that scene.
Sequel Still a Question Mark
Released in 2009, 3 Idiots became one of the most powerful films of the Indian cinema, which provoked discussions about education, pressure and success. The fans are still screaming for the sequel, but according to Joshi, there is no tangible action so far.
At least to this day, the legacy of the film lives on, generating nostalgia, as well as speculation and hope.
