Legacy and Power Vacuum
Khamenei was one of the preeminent political/religious leaders of the Middle East for over thirty years, so his passing has created a power void within Iran’s religious/governmental hierarchy. As of yet, no clear leader has been established to replace him, and many countries are fearful of civil unrest or fighting between factions vying for control in Iran.
The death of the supreme leader has increased violence and Hostilities in the Middle East, has led to further military actions against each nation, has raised fears regarding expanded conflicts, has placed additional pressure on Global Energy/Commodity Markets due to the potential for disruption of a major oil producer, and has caused many world leaders to call for calm despite ongoing military action.
