The mid-Brahmaputra valley is always accompanied by the sound of heavy machine in the background but when it hit a cymbal. It was not just another shift to thousands of engineers, rig operators and technicians of Oil India Limited (OIL). It was the day they stretched the limits of the India energy potential to the edge.

In a history-first, which reverberates much further than the New Delhi boardrooms, the Oil India Limited stood at the highest-ever oil and gas production of 1,47,159 Barrels of Oil Equivalent (BOE) on a daily basis.

The Pulse of Productivity: Not only Numbers

Idealistically He was behind the icy figures of 1.47 lakh barrels; there is a narrative of human courage and technology craft. The company used a stringent operational marathon consisting of 73 new wells and more than 300 workovers (re-entry into the old wells to increase flow) to achieve this peak.

To the old school of Duliajan, the hub of the activity of the OIL, this is a testimony of the longevity of matured fields. The daily output of crude oil reached 80,060 barrels or the highest in over a decade by the company. When declining oil fields are regularly being disqualified as an asset, and the team at OIL has shown that with the correct stimulation and a little driller luck that even these underground giants can still have much to offer.

After the achievement, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced to the world, claiming that it was one of the bricks of the wall of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India). His accolade highlights a truth of utmost importance: in an environment where the international energy markets are jittery and the supply lines tend to be the targets of geopolitical disputes, every single additional drop that is made in the country is a triumph to the average Indian citizen.

Protecting the Nation: Energy Security in an Unstable World

The time of this record could not be any more important. With the upcoming 132 nd episode of Mann Ki Baat, the energy security of the country is in the best priority list. As the world struggles with the aftermath of the tussle in West Asia and the subsequent Strait of Hormuz mess, India has been busy strengthening its “Energy Oasis.”

The multiple revelations by the Government in the recent past depict a visionary approach, which borders on the proactive. India now has a total reserve capacity of 74 days which is a totals of crude reserves, product reserves as well as strategic underground caverns. Using the increased production within the country, such companies as OIL are making sure that should the tides change globally, still, the Indian kitchen and the Indian commuter will be spared.

Innovation in the Trenches

It took 1,47,159 BOE to travel smoothly. It needed a change of direction to Mission Samudra Manthan the dream project of government in the exploration of deep water. Although OIL has always been an onshore powerhouse, the recent ventures into Andaman offshore and the Krishna-Godavari basin are an indication of a new beginning.

Such methods as Hydro-fracturing, Plunger-lifts are ceasing to be the buzzwords in textbooks; they are so often in the working hands of young Indian engineers to squeeze out the life out of old reservoirs. Another component that the company has incorporated in its gas management services is the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems that enable real-time monitoring of its services which reduce its wastage and maximize its throughput.
