The Telangana Rashtra Sena was started on April 25 in Hyderabad by former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha. She made fun of K. Chandrashekar Rao and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi by saying that the Telangana dream still hasn’t come true.
The move comes a few months after Kavitha was suspended
In September 2025 from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi. She said that top party leaders, like her uncles T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar, were hurting her father’s and the party’s image because of problems with the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project.
After being suspended, Kavitha turned her attention to reaching out to the public through Telangana Jagruthi, the culture group she runs.
PTI said that she announced last month that she was starting a new political party that would focus on problems that are “Telangana-centric.” When Kavitha spoke to the press about her new political party, she said it would focus on welfare, self-reliance, and Development that benefits everyone. “In 12 years, we still haven’t been able to secure the ‘Neellu, Nidhulu, Niyamakalu’ or ‘Water, Funds, and Jobs’ that we fought for,” she said. From farmers to businesspeople, young people to old people, SCs and STs to BCs, Sikhs to Muslims to Christians to people from other minority groups, the list goes on and on.
Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s political party, Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS), got off the ground on April 25. People are interested in the party’s name because it sounds a lot like Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s (BRS) former name.
Notably, Kavitha was kicked out of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, which her father, K. Chandrashekar Rao, founded. From now on, she will use the letters TRS.

She said she had to start a new party because the BRS, who are in opposition, doesn’t want to take responsibility, especially her father.
Kavitha said that Telangana’s dreams have not come true except for the 12 years that it was split into two states. “KCR led the Telangana revolution chariot, but it has gone off in a different direction,” she said.

Kavitha says that since Telangana became a state, the “social juggernaut” has stopped
Taking aim at the BRS government (then TRS), which took power right after the state was created, she added. “We thought that getting a new state would free us from our chains.” But farmers were tied down. The desire to mine for sand led to attacks on Dalits in Nerella. People died. Not being able to speak easily. There was always tracking. It’s true that we didn’t get the Telangana we wanted.
The Election Commission hasn’t given the new TRS its OK yet, so they haven’t announced their party sign yet. Streamers in yellow, green, and blue filled the hall as Kavitha began her speech, though, making the party colours stand out. Three different colours make up the flag of the Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS). In the middle of the flag is a blue map of Telangana that says “TRS.”
Kavitha also said that the BRS has “lost its soul”
She said, “Government should be run like a mother; she will be heartbroken if anything bad happens to their children.” Only when understanding is used in government will the state do well.
The start of the party comes eight months after she quit the BRS, right after KCR banned her for what he said were actions that were against the party. There were problems within the party that led to the split. Kavitha was on one side, and her brother KT Rama Rao, nephews T Harish Rao and Joginapally Santosh Kumar were on the other.
Kavitha said that Harish and Santosh were working together to hurt her and she told her brother and dad not to trust them. She has also said that they are to blame for the cheating allegations against KCR in the Kaleshwaram irrigation project.

Kavitha resigned her MLC position in September 2025
She has been working with her group, the Telangana Jagruthi, ever since. The group used to be the Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s artistic arm.
Kavitha has said in the past that the BRS is moving away from its core values, which are Telangana’s regional goals. She said at the time that she would focus on these unmet hopes and that the word Telangana would be added to the new party’s name. Kavitha has already said that she will run for the next Assembly election from either Bodhan or Siddipet. KCR was the representative for Siddipet for almost twenty years, until 2004. Since then, his nephew Harish Rao has been the representative.
Unfortunately, it lost a lot of votes in both the 2023 Telangana Assembly election and the 2024 general election. Some BRS chiefs are said to have wanted the party to go back to its old name. After removing Telangana from its name, they thought the party had moved away from its core beliefs and had lost touch with the people.
Not long ago, Kavitha also said that the name TRS could be used, which led to rumours that she might use the name or at least the abbreviation for her own party. Within days, her brother KTR, the working president of BRS, also told the media that the party might revert to its old name.
