On February 11, 2026,  a Bengaluru based software engineer came up with a unique and creative way to solve a very Indian problem: how to decide what to eat at huge wedding spreads without going overboard or missing out on favourite dishes. The techie has developed an AI powered tool that analyses buffets and creates personalised meal plans for each guest. This way, guests can try more foods without getting too full too fast.

The idea came from a common regret after a meal. It has sparked both laughter and interest online, but people on social media have had mixed reactions.

How BuffetGPT Came to Be

The Bengaluru developer, Pankaj, said he got tired of going to weddings and leaving with an empty plate or the thought, I wish I had tried that dish. In answer, he made an AI program called BuffetGPT that can look at a wedding table and list all the foods that are offered. The tool then makes a personalized meal plan for each person based on how hungry they are and what flavors they like.

Pankaj says the system’s purpose is not only to tell people what looks good, but also to improve food choices so guests can try more things and still have room to enjoy them. Early versions of the tool were tried at a friend’s wedding, where they were said to have helped people choose better meals.

He talked about why he wanted to do this by saying that the normal Indian wedding spread is something that a lot of people find exhausting. There are so many foods that it can be more stressful than enjoyable to decide what to eat.

How the AI Tool Works

Machine learning and personalised selection reasoning are at the heart of BuffetGPT. The tool looks at the spread by either using pictures uploaded by users or by entering information about each dish. It then looks at a number of factors, such as how popular the dish is, what each person likes, and even an estimate of their stomach size.

It then comes up with a plan based on this research that tells the user

  • Which foods should be served first?
  • Which to only enjoy in small amounts, and
  • Which ones to skip if they might make you full too quickly??

The goal of this method is to help people make better food choices when they are hungry or excited and make decisions on the spot.

Talk and Reactions on Social Media

Different people responded differently as the idea spread on social media. A lot of people thought the idea was funny, approachable, and a smart way to use technology to make everyday things better. People who commented said that most Indians have felt confused by the variety of food at wedding buffets and that this kind of tool could be funny and useful.

But some people were not as pleased. Some users wondered if such an answer was really needed for a problem that most people would see as silly or unimportant. Some people pointed out that wedding feasts are about more than just the food. They are also about celebrating and getting to know each other. Making the meal too perfect could drain the fun.

Even though people had different thoughts on the tool, it sparked many interesting online discussions about how new technologies like AI can be used in surprising ways in everyday life.

A Sense of the Creator

Aside from being a business, Pankaj has said that the project is just for fun. In his words, it started out as a fun weekend project born of a desire to use creative writing to solve a real problem.

Even though it’s still in its early stages, his work has already drawn a lot of attention, both for being new and for demonstrating how AI can be used to address specific cultural problems.

What This Means for AI in Everyday Life

This new project, called BuffetGPT, reflects a broader trend as AI becomes easier to use, coders are experimenting with useful, fun and sometimes strange uses for it. Technology is still combining cultural events in new ways, such as suggesting personalised meals and making it easier to solve everyday problems.

There is no doubt that BuffetGPT will appeal to people who have had to navigate an endless wedding spread, whether it becomes a popular app or stays a fun experiment.
