Bill Gates, who is the founder and chairman of the Gates Foundation, traveled to AP on February 17th, 2026. He held discussions with the AP government on an array of topics that included many areas where there can be further collaboration between both organisations.

He arrived at Gannavaram Airport in an evening with multiple state cabinet ministers, including the Minister for Information Technology Shri Nara Lokesh, and made his way to the AP Secretariat in Amaravathi.

At the Secretariat, he met with the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Minister Pawan Kalyan along with other cabinet ministers for further talks related to developing a stronger collaboration between the Gates Foundation and AP in those identified focus areas.

Focus Areas for the Visit

The primary focus of this collaboration will be to strengthen their current working relationship in:

Nurturing Public Health & Healthcare Improvements

It is Gates’ goal to build upon the ongoing projects throughout the state related to “health” including, for example, collaboration on increased access to healthcare services and using technology as a means of providing major components (i.e., medical support) required in addressing the state’s multitude of public health problems. The Gates Foundation has been involved in various public health programmes across AP, specifically in Kuppam (Chitoor), and through his visit to AP, he hopes to catalytically increase the number of health-related interventions throughout the state.

Artificial Intelligence and Technology in Governance

Mr. Gates witnessed advancements in the integration of technology and AI into the state’s governance model when he visited the Real-Time Governance System at the RTGS Centre where representatives of the state government were demonstrating the use of data for monitoring processes to improve the efficiency of administration required by the government.

Agriculture, Education, and Innovation

Mr. Gates will visit an agricultural demonstration site in Undavalli Village during his trip to observe demonstrations of drone and AI-assisted agriculture as an example of how technologies are being integrated into modern agriculture.

The Chief Minister provided Mr. Gates an overview of the Swarna Andhra Vision 2047 long-term development plan for the state, which identifies major reforms in health, education, agriculture and governance, ultimately ending with outlining significant ambitions for scalable digital services and partnerships for innovation.

The discussions also included a demonstration by the Chief Minister on how Sanjeevani can be an example of how public-private partnerships can change the way health records are stored digitally and be expanded to other areas of health care.

Significance of the Visit

Gates is continuing his history of engaging with the State of Andhra Pradesh through this visit, as well as through previous engagements by collaborating together and by other invitations extended by the State to improve social impact in multiple areas. His visit indicates an increasing partnership between Gates Foundation and Government of Andhra Pradesh for using technology, innovation and global expertise in order to tackle developmental problems

Bottom line:

Bill Gates’ recent trip to Andhra Pradesh represents an important milestone in the relationship between the Andhra Pradesh State Government and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

During his visit, the discussions on different topics, such as healthcare, artificial intelligence, agriculture, and digital governance, indicate the state’s willingness to utilize technological advancements to achieve inclusive development. The exploration of scalable solutions for things like digital health records and AI-based administration serves to position Andhra Pradesh as an example of how innovation can drive economic growth.

The establishment of such relationships not only increases the state’s contacts with others around the world but also shows a common goal among those who are trying to improve services for the public and create new ways to enhance the quality of life for people living in the state while ensuring that all individuals can participate fully in the state’s economy.
