When the XEV 9S comes out on November 27, 2025, it will be Mahindra’s big move into the family EV market. The XEV 9S is set to become India’s first mass-market three-row electric SUV. It claims to combine space, cutting-edge technology, and Mahindra’s design language into a useful, family-friendly package.
The XEV 9S could be the model that finally makes the switch feel realistic for SUV-loving people in India who want to go electric without giving up room or comfort.

What Mahindra Has Done So Far with Electric
Some of Mahindra’s other electric cars, like the XUV400 and the Born Electric range, helped the company build its reputation before the XEV 9S. With more than 30,000 electric SUVs on Indian roads, the brand is now one of the few that has experience putting EVs in a lot of places.
With the XEV 9S, Mahindra wants to bring that experience to a market area that doesn’t have a clear competitor yet: an electric SUV with a long range, comfortable seating for seven, and high-end features.

Designed for Everyone, Built on Innovation
Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard platform is used to build the XEV 9S. This is an electric-first system that is changing the way cars are made. Putting the batteries flat under the floor makes more room inside and lowers the center of gravity, which makes the ride better and the car more stable.
With a flat cabin floor, a folding second row, and even a full-sized frunk (front trunk), it also makes it easier to pack. It’s good for growing families or long weekend trips because it has more storage space and more ways to use it.
The skateboard design also makes crashes safer because the batteries are part of a strong, stiff base that makes the SUV stronger.
Premium inside, electric outside
Mahindra hasn’t shown the whole inside of the car yet, but teasers have shown off some of the most important parts. There will be three screens on the dashboard of the XEV 9S: one for the instrument panel, one for entertainment, and one just for the passenger.
It will have the same high-end features as the XEV 9e, like a Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby surround sound, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory, and buttons that look like toggles, just like the BE 6 and XEV 9e. Comfort features like heated and cooled front seats, three-zone climate control, and ambient lighting should also be part of the deal.
There is also the panoramic skyroof, which Mahindra calls its “Sky Lounge” and is a design highlight. It’s meant to make every drive feel more open and high-end.
Made to Keep You Safe
Mahindra has put a lot of thought into making its Born Electric range safe. It is expected that the XEV 9S will have Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags, ESP, hill-hold assist, and a camera system that can see from all sides.
The INGLO base also lets the SUV better absorb energy in the event of a crash, making it safer to drive than a regular electric vehicle. Mahindra has made it sound like it wants all of its INGLO-based cars to get five stars for safety scores around the world.
Why it’s important
As of now, most people who buy electric SUVs do so in cities because they look good and are environmentally friendly. The XEV 9S, on the other hand, is designed for people who want an electric SUV for daily tasks, like commuting in the city or taking trips on the highway.
The XEV 9S offers an easy, natural transition to electric power by combining Mahindra’s tough SUV style with current electric-vehicle technology.
Why shout “Electric”?
Mahindra’s “Scream Electric” event on November 27 will be where the XEV 9S will be shown off. There, we’ll get a better look at its style, interior, and price. As the market for electric vehicles heats up and more buyers join the event, this could be Mahindra’s most important launch since the XUV700.
The XEV 9S could become India’s first truly popular electric SUV if the price and performance live up to expectations. It has enough room, range, and usefulness without costing more than Rs 30 lakh.
