Nepal’s people are rejecting the country’s traditional leaders and supporting Balendra Shah, better known as Balen. This could mean a big change in the country’s government. Based on early results from the most recent election for parliament, the Rastriya Swatantra Party looks like it will win big, making Shah the next prime minister of the country.
Many people see the election as a rejection of Nepal’s political elite, which has been in power for a long time. The Nepali Congress and the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) were far behind as the results were counted in 150 districts on Friday. The RSP took two seats and was ahead in another 106.

The results of the election for 165 places in Nepal’s 275-member House of Representatives will be made public on Saturday. For the last 110 seats, the proportional voting method is used. This means that each party will hold its own election and use the results to decide how many seats they have won.
UML vice-chairman Bishnu Poudel, Rastriya Prajatantra Party chief Rajendra Lingden and Kamal Thapa, senior Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala, billionaire Binod Chaudhary running on an NC ticket, Janamat Party chief C K Raut, Janata Samajwadi Party leader Upendra Yadav, NCP leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, and former Speaker and UML candidate Dev Raj Ghimire were also in the lead.
Because they got such a big majority, RSP head Rabi Lamichhane will be in charge of the party. He was the Deputy Prime Minister and in charge of the Home Ministry.

From rap artist and engineer to political opponent
Balendra Shah was known for a very different job before he became a politician. The 35-yearold building engineer first became well-known in Nepal as a rapper who used music to talk about corruption and other social problems. His first big break in politics came in 2022, when he beat candidates from the big parties to become mayor of Kathmandu as an independent.
