A New Kind of E-Reader for Your Pocket

The Xteink X4 is a new ultra-compact e-reader that is getting a lot of attention for its unique look and lightweight design. Most e-readers are held like a small tablet, but this one is made to automatically connect to the back of your smartphone.

This makes it one of the smallest reading devices in this category. Users can snap this reader onto their phone and read text on an E-Ink screen whenever they want, so they don’t have to carry around a separate device.

A small size with useful features

The X4 is lighter than most phones and even lighter than many power banks. It has a 4.3-inch E-Ink screen and weighs only 74 grammes. Small enough to fit in a bag and easy enough to use with one hand. Magnetic mounting works with devices that have MagSafe-style rings, and it comes with a sticky magnetic ring for phones that don’t work with that.

It has a resolution of 220 ppi, which is less than most larger e-readers, which give 300 ppi. Text may not look as sharp, but most people should still be able to read it. Since it doesn’t have a front light, you can only use it easily in bright places.

Easy to use and long battery life

The thing doesn’t have a display. Instead, it has physical buttons for simple control and moving the pages. It works with simple file types for books, like EPUB and TXT, and can show simple pictures, like JPG and BMP. Since it doesn’t work with DRM-protected ebooks, users will need to add their own DRM-free files.

You can use Wi-Fi to move books or a microSD card with up to 512 GB of space to add them. That’s a lot of storage space for a device that small, so users can bring a huge library with them when they travel. The X4 has a 650 mAh battery that the company that made it says can last up to two weeks of light daily reading.

A Cheap Reader for Simplistic Readers

One big reason people are interested in the Xteink X4 is that it is very cheap, much cheaper than other popular e-readers. This device fills a clear need for people who want a simple reading partner that won’t cost a lot.

This small form factor works great for:

    • People who commute and read on the go
    • Students who want a show that doesn’t confuse them
    • People who want a small, light gadget
    • People who always have their phones with them and want an extra reading tool
    • Not for heavy readers, but useful for everyday use

The X4 is handy, but it’s not meant to replace full-sized e-readers. It has a small screen that doesn’t have any lights, and users have to organise their own text files. You can’t get to the big digital bookshops, and the text isn’t as clear as on high-end devices. Because of this, it works better as a backup reading tool than as a main reading tool.

Still, the X4 offers something new for people who value mobility above all else: a small, attachable e-reader that makes reading on any phone more comfortable with E-Ink without making it bulkier.
