In Udhampur District, Jammu & Kashmir Security forces neutralized two Jaish- e-Mohammad (JeM) (Pakistan-based) terrorists after conducting a joint counter-terror operation from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Operation Kiya: Two Jaish Terrorists Neutralized in Udhampur
The operation, named “Operation Kiya,” was carried out as part of an effort by the White Knight Corps of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF in the Basant Garh and Jaffer forests within Ramnagar.
Tactical Assault on Cave Hideout
According to officials, the security forces used intelligence to track the terrorists to their hideout in the natural cave in heavy forested area. Use of drones helped locate them as well as track their movements.
The security forces began a gunfight with the terrorists who fired upon them whilst conducting searches around 4 PM. The fire fight went for slightly more than an hour. Both terrorists were subsequently shot at but managed to get away further into the cave. By morning, the security forces had secured the area and were ready to make a final push into the cave.
The security forces were able to neutralize both terrorists without any injuries to the security forces during the final assault at 7 AM on Wednesday morning.

Identification & Seizure of Arms
According to authorities, the two slain rebels were identified as “Mavi” and “Zubair,” with Mavi serving as a lieutenant of Jaish-e-Mohammed, a terrorist organization that has operated in this area for many years.
Evidence gathered at this crime scene included an AK-47 rifle and an M4 carbine, which indicates that the Islamabad-based terrorists were armed and dangerous.
The success of this operation relied heavily upon cooperation between multiple law enforcement agencies, effective tactical execution, and efficient ongoing monitoring of the areas surrounding this crime scene. Law enforcement agencies will continue to monitor this area for any further signs of terrorist activity while conducting regular patrols throughout the day and night.
In addition to this operation ending with the deaths of both suspects, law enforcement agencies remain on high alert for any additional acts of terrorism in response to Operation Kiya. Ongoing anti-terror operations throughout Kashmir have further heightened law enforcement agency activity. This includes greater emphasis on targeting suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed members in Kishtwar district and Kathua district and their surrounding areas.
Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) is a Pakistan-based Islamic terrorist group designated as such by the Indian government and others. Jaish-e-Mohammed has repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to conduct terrorist acts that have caused significant numbers of deaths and injuries of both military personnel and civilians within Jammu & Kashmir and outside of this region. Jaish-e-Mohammed has been responsible for numerous high profile terrorist attacks, including the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament and the 2016 attack at Uri, both of which resulted in significant loss of life and property.

What This Means Going Forward?
Operations like Kiya, according to analysts, are part of an ongoing counter-terrorism strategy using intel-driven action and the destruction of militant hideouts located deeply in forests and remote areas of rugged terrain.
Regarding counter-terrorism, the Indian security establishment has remained active and vigilant of threats posed by cross-border terrorism through increased: patrols; surveillance; and operations with state police to prevent any future infiltration or acts of violence within the region.
