Australian officials confirmed that the number of dead at the Bondi Beach shooting in Sydney has risen to 15, with another 27 hospitalised, with 12 of them in critical condition.
The two suspects are a father and a son, and the police have termed the attack a terrorist attack aimed at the Jewish nation when there was a crowd of Hanukkah celebrants at one of the most popular tourist spots in Australia.

Father Killed, Son Hospitalised After Police Action
The suspects were a 24-year-old son and a 50-year-old father, as stipulated by New South Wales Police. The father opened fire and was killed on the spot by officers who were shooting and killing civilians. The son was seriously wounded in the process of the police reaction and is now in the hospital under guard.
Criminal prosecution, they said, was possible against the younger suspect once he had stabilised his medical condition. According to the police, both suspects were collaborating in the attack.

Targeted Attack During Hanukkah Event
Authorities stated that the shooting took place as an event to celebrate the first day of Hanukkah was taking place at Bondi Beach. The event has been categorised by investigators as an antisemitic terrorist attack, saying it was planned to intentionally target the Jewish community.
Playing host to the tourists and locals, the beach was transformed into a place of chaos with shots being fired. Witnesses have testified that they heard bursts of gunfire and people running away in panic when they saw people being fired upon by attackers.
Casualties and Medical Response
Officials in the health department claimed that at least 27 victims are still in the hospitals in Sydney, of which twelve are in serious condition. The number of injured had been estimated to be more than 40 earlier, and this reflects the magnitude of the attack.
Several hospitals were filled with victims that emergency responders rushed to as police uncovered the area and conducted extensive searches. This rapid reaction of medical teams was acclaimed by authorities who said that their work helped to avoid a further increase in the number of people killed.
Suspects’ Background Under Scrutiny
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese disclosed that the younger suspect was a citizen of Australia born in the country who had been investigated by intelligence agencies in 2019 over his association with other people of concern. The on-site evaluation at that moment showed that there was no sign that an imminent threat was imminent, and the investigation was discontinued after six months.
The father, according to the officials, was in Australia in 1998 on a student visa, following which he acquired residency. Law enforcement agencies are currently looking into the ways the suspects gained access to the guns, in particular, considering the fact that gun control is a stringent regime in Australia.
Australia Considers Tightening Gun Laws Further
Following the worst mass shooting in the country since 1996, the Prime Minister Albanese stated that the government would look at further restricting gun laws in Australia, even though it already has some of the highest gun control laws in the world.
Among the matters that we are going to scrutinize is whether there is still a need to tighten or modify anything, as Albanese termed the attack an unprecedented attack on the Australian lifestyle.
New South Wales Premier Chris Minns responded to the call and claimed that gun control policies should be tightened even further due to the fact that it has turned out that one of the suspects might have possessed a gun legally. He indicated that there would be enactment of legislation to limit the access of high-powered guns that have no practical purpose in the community.
