By obtaining an aerodrome license from the DGCA, the Noida International Airport at Jewar has overcome a major regulatory obstacle toward initiating flight operations and has reached another key milestone in what could be one of India’s grandest aviation infrastructure projects, thereby getting much closer to commencing commercial air services.

DGCA issued an Aerodrome License to Jewar International Airport, authorizing it to undertake passenger and cargo operations within India. The aerodrome license represents that the airport has been validated for operational safety, infrastructure, and operational capabilities based on India’s civil aviation regulations.

The aerodrome was issued a “public” use license by the DGCA, permitting all-weather operational use for flight operations. The operational readiness of the infrastructure (runway, terminal, air navigation facilities) has also been validated.

Authorities expect commercial flights from Jewar will start within 45 days after completing required operational activities and staffing. Officials from the operation of this airport along with other government agencies are in the process of completing all of their operations necessary for the proper functioning of the airport. These include; assisting airlines with flight schedules, providing adequate passenger services, implementing effective security systems. After these steps have been completely executed, the airport will have an official event to recognize the airport’s opening for usage.

Significant Infrastructure Project in NCR

The Noida International Airport is currently located in Jewar, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. This airport is being developed through the public-private partnership model and will become one of India’s largest airports when it is completed.

Phase 1 of the airport will consist of the construction of 1 runway and approximately a 12 million-passenger capacity terminal facility. This project has an area of approximately 1,300 acres and was designed for both passenger and cargo capacity.

Enhancing Regional Connectivity and Economic Activity

The Noida International Airport will assist with the improvement of air connectivity for both the NCR (National Capital Region) and western Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, it will reduce congestion at existing Delhi airport facilities, promote economic and tourism development within this region, increase trade and commerce, and foster investment in this area.

When fully developed, the Noida International Airport will serve a maximum number of passengers per annum equal to approximately 70 million making it a major northern Indian aviation hub. The licensing of the airport marks a decisive step toward expanding India’s aviation infrastructure and strengthening regional connectivity.
