Meta and Oakley have released the Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses in India. These add to Meta’s line of AI-enabled wearables, which already includes Ray-Ban models.

The glasses have Oakley’s sport-focused HSTN frame design and Meta’s AI and better camera system built right into the device. They are aimed at people who want to take photos and videos from a certain angle without holding their phones and who want to use Meta’s AI helper without using their hands.

Price and availability

In India, the Clear and Prizm lens versions of the Oakley Meta HSTN glasses start at Rs 41,800. The price of the Prizm Polarised model is Rs 44,200, and the price of the Prizm Transition type is Rs 47,600. Starting December 1, all versions will be sold at Sunglass Hut and other top eyeglasses stores. Their page on the Meta website lets you see them.

The Oakley version has been on sale around the world since June of this year.

Specifications

The glasses have a 12MP camera, which is better than the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses from the first version. With a field of view of 100 degrees, they can record POV video at up to 3K quality at 30 frames per second. You can use the standard, slow motion and hyperlapse modes. 3024 x 4032 pixels are used to take still pictures and users can livestream to Instagram and other Meta sites.

Five mics record sound in three dimensions and open-ear speakers play music and take calls. The storage is always 32GB, which is more than enough for over 1,000 photos and more than 100 short videos. During recording, an LED on the frame indicates that it is private. As part of connectivity, Meta AI orders let you connect to Apple Music, Spotify and other apps. The new glasses are supposed to work for up to eight hours, and the charging case that comes with them can be used for up to 48 hours.

So, the main improvements over Meta’s previous smart glasses are the ability to record 3K video, the bigger field of view, and Oakley’s sport-oriented frame design. The better microphone setup should make voice orders clearer and make it easier to record sound in busy places. Meta’s AI helper is an important part of the experience; it lets users get information, handle their music, and use the camera without using their hands. For India, this means that Meta’s AI environment now includes gadgets as well as phones and Facebook apps.

In India, the main competitor is the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, which have similar AI features but are designed to fit better with everyday life. They start at a lower price and might be good for people who like basic glasses styles.

Since the glasses depend on the Meta AI environment, users should make sure that the apps they use every day are compatible. Because storage is set, long 3K video sessions may feel like they’re not enough space. Open-ear speakers can also leak sound in noisy settings, so keep that in mind. As with any frame, the HSTN frame leans towards a sport style that might not work for everyone.
