The world’s leading automobile manufacturer, Renault, has recently confirmed a return to its former glory in India with the launch of the new 2026 Duster SUV model on Republic Day (January 26th, 2026) at a ceremony held in Chennai. This signifies a renewed commitment from Renault to the Indian market; previously, the company was a strong player in the Compact SUV segment before the withdrawal of Renault from India.

Renault has started accepting pre-understanding requests for the new 2026 Duster model and will be announcing pricing in March 2026. Orders for Turbo Petrol Powered Duster models are expected to be delivered in April 2026, and strong Hybrid models are expected to be available during Diwali 2026.

Renault has undergone significant restructuring in India, which will create greater brand awareness, increase localisation, and enhance their current product offering as part of this strategy.

Distinctive New Appearance

The new 2026 Duster represents a departure from traditional SUV looks with an emphasis placed on modernisation through a combination of a more angular design combined with bold styling elements and strong, muscular characteristics.

Key exterior highlights include:

  • The Duster is outfitted with full LED lighting, featuring a unique Y-shaped design in the daytime running lights.
  • The Duster’s 18-inch alloy wheels are combined with a ground clearance that’s approximately 212 mm higher than previous models.
  • The Duster has the added benefit of a horizontal LED tail light bar that connects the two rear clusters together.
  • The Duster has a distinct India-specific touch, with a bold lettering grille and colours inspired by the Himalayas.
  • The Duster will compete against: Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Skoda Kushaq.

New Technology for Features and Interior of the Duster

The new Duster has been redesigned on the inside, making the cabin feel more luxurious and technology-friendly than ever before!

New Features and Technology Include:

  • 10.1-inch OpenR Link Touchscreen, Google Built-In with Wireless Compatibility
  • 10.25-inch Digital Instrument Cluster
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (Wireless)
  • Dual-Zone climate Control, Ambient Lighting
  • Panoramic Sunroof
  • Ventilated and Power-Adjustable Seats

Latest Connected Car Technology with Personalised Profiles

In addition to these features, Renault also offers an extended warranty program called “Renault Forever” which provides customers with up to seven years or 150,000 km of coverage for peace of mind.

Engine and Powertrain Options

The most exciting aspect of the new Duster is the variety of petrol-oriented powertrain. Renault has eliminated diesel powertrain in favour of petrol options, as the trends of the automotive industry and regulatory standards regarding emissions are moving towards petrol powertrains.

Turbo Petrol Engines:

1.0-litre TCe 100 Turbo Petrol

  • Power output: ~100 PS and torque: 160 Nm.
  • Transmission: Only offered with 6-speed manual.
  • Ideal for urban and budget-conscious buyers.

1.3-litre TCe 160 Turbo Petrol

  • Power output: ~163 PS and torque: 280 Nm.
  • Transmission: Both manual and automatic (6-speed DCT) options available.
  • Provides excellent mid-range power for highway cruising and overtaking.

Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160:

The addition of the E-Tech hybrid system is a first for the Duster in India:

  • 1.8-litre gasoline engine + electric motor + 1.4 kWh battery
  • Combined power output of ~160 PS
  • Anticipated availability is late in 2026 (around Diwali).

This hybrid variant marks Renault’s entry into the electrified mobility market, offering a combination of improved fuel economy and reduced emissions with SUV practicality.

Safety & Driver-Assistance Technology:

The safety systems have been significantly improved compared to the previous model year.

The Duster Level 2 advanced driver assistance suite, which includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition and lane-keeping assistant, is a new feature for the Duster, enhancing safety as well as technological competitiveness over previous models.

Additionally, the Duster has six airbags, tyre pressure monitors, electronic stability control and hill descent control, as well as 360 degree views and front/rear parking sensors.

Hill descent control and electronic parking brake with auto hold offer an advanced level of safety and technology for an SUV in this segment compared to previous models.

As of March 2026, the Duster’s pricing will determine how they will compare to other vehicles in the competitive SUV market, including the Creta, Seltos, Grand Vitara and others. Renault has set up operations in Chennai and are producing most parts in India, allowing Renault to keep prices low while delivering great features and technology.
