In a FIR filed last year, a former sub inspector said that the IAS officer hit him when he went to the MHADA office to complain about not getting his rent on time.

Vice-chairman and managing director of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), Sanjeev Jaiswal, has been in a lot of trouble in the past.

The IAS officer from the 1996 batch started another one on Friday, which angered both the Congress party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Some people in an MHADA settlement then asked that he be transferred.

When Jaiswal told the people of Motilal Nagar in Goregaon about the plan to rebuild the neighbourhood, he asked a resident with a beard and a sign calling for bigger houses to show his ID to see if he was an “encroacher.”

The resident was named as Jalaluddin Kachwa, who is 38 years old

The people of Motilal Nagar sent a letter to the Goregaon Police station on the same day, asking that an FIR be made against Jaiswal because they thought his behaviour was “completely inappropriate, illegal, and discriminatory.”

A letter signed by several Motilal Nagar residents was sent to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM and Housing Minister Eknath Shinde, Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal and Mumbai CP Deven Bharti. The letter says Jaiswal should be fired immediately and investigated by the police.

A CMO source said that Fadnavis is known to be short-tempered, even though the minister hasn’t said anything about the present issue yet. The CM had talked to the cop before, the person said.

Varsha Gaikwad, a Congress MP, said that Jaiswal’s words showed how the Mahayuti government is supposedly making people “give up their democratic rights.”

Gaikwad wrote on X on Sunday, “This is clear proof that Maharashtra’s administration is working for the Adani…the government wants people to kneel before the Adanis, and to do that, it has used police to scare people.”

The Adani Group won the bid to rebuild Motilal Nagar, which is on 143 acres and is in Goregaon West. Jaiswal said at the presentation on Friday that the group would spend almost 1 lakh crore on the project.

The way Jaiswal spoke was “inappropriate,” and he should say sorry to the people who live there, BJP MLC Pravin Darekar told reporters on Sunday.

“If you turn out to be a Ghuskhor”

According to Jallaluddin Kachwa, who works as a human resources person for a staffing company, he was born in Motilal Nagar.

“All I was doing was making my point clear.” Kachwa told ThePrint, “I have all the papers I need to prove that I was born here and have lived in Motilal Nagar ever since.”

At the event on Friday, Kachwa stood up with a sign that said he wanted homes that were 2,400 square feet. As part of the grand plan to rebuild Motilal Nagar, more than 3,700 people will be given homes that are 1,600 square feet on the inside.

Media people were also at the event, and the video shows that Jaiswal asked him to talk in Marathi. “Are you sure you don’t know Marathi? Come on, sit down.” Don’t make me look into whether you are a “encroacher” or not. You are what? The police should go get that man’s ID card.

In the police report, people from Motilal Nagar said, “A young man from Motilal Nagar named Jalaluddin Kachwa was peacefully holding up a banner with his demands on it.” At that time, Sanjeev Jaiswal made threats against him and said things that were biased, based on rank, and hurtful to the community. He was thought to be a Bangladeshi ghuskhor because of his beard.

The complainants also said that the Motilal Nagar neighbourhood has been around since 1961 and has people from many religions and groups living there.
